Shakespeare 400!

negotiated major project

For my final project at university, I created my own brief: to make Shakespeare more accessible and exciting to a modern audience. My target audience was 11-18 y/o who have grown up with social media and I decided that I should use a language they are more familiar with to help them understand Shakespeare more easily: emojis.  I created my own Shakespeare themed emojis which feature throughout my project. I also created an app, website, festival, book covers and a brochure.

Set of Shakespeare emojis.

Set of Shakespeare emojis.

The Pocket Shakespeare app would include all of the plays with context. characters etc.; a dictionary which helps students with the language from Shakespeare's plays and puts them into a modern context; an insult generator as a fun break from revision and lastly, a talk to... feature which allows students to "talk" to the characters by using set questions and this has a more personal interaction with Shakespeare.

Website that holds all information about Shakespeare 400!, Pocket Shakespeare, emoji books and a shop. Also has a games page again as a break from revision.

5 emoji book covers. I chose these 5 plays as these are the ones most used in high school and college. The summary is posed in tweet form which again is in a format that students a most used to.

Brochure for Shakespeare 400! festival. This shows all the events that happen over the day for example: creative writing seminars, 16th century entertainment (falconry, fencing), food stalls, book readings and much more.
